Puppy Package
$499.00
Are you aware that something as simple as the way you put on your pup’s or mature dog’s collar and harness can have a LIFELONG effect on your puppy or dog? Handling and socializing your pup with the RIGHT trainer in the RIGHT ways is CRITICAL to how your dog will behave and respond to you and other people for the rest of his and her LIFE.
I offer a reduced rate of $499.00 for six one-hour long lessons*. This fee must be paid in full at your first lesson in order for the discount to apply. Your lessons will include housetraining; crate training; proper socialization to other people and other dogs; real-life outdoor meet-and-greets, some arranged with my own dogs who are friendly, healthy and current on their vaccinations; proper use of all equipment, including collars and harnesses; effective feeding and walking schedules for optimizing housetraining; house-proofing; basic manners and handling for lifelong skills; introduction to grooming, including hand stripping for rough-coated terriers; special focus on behavioral skills and prevention for terrier breeds. Other skills including in the Puppy Package address mouthing and puppy nipping, encouraging pups to use their mouths gently; playing with appropriate toys in the appropriate manner; learning his or her name and responding to it; jumping; obtaining your pup’s focus and attention; coming when called (aka: recall); stand; wait; up and off; encouraging your pup to walk on a loose leash without pulling; dropping items when asked to; and leaving items alone when asked to. The Puppy Package includes a 30-page Puppy Primer given to you at your second lesson, which is authored by your Trainer, Madeline Friedman. The Puppy Primer is also available for sale for hourly lessons or by special order.
Important Note: Most puppy training is straightforward. However, when I meet your puppy, if I determine that your puppy has a serious behavior issue, skills training may need to be delayed until the behavior issue is addressed. This doesn’t occur frequently, but it does sometimes occur. If I can’t get near your dog, I can’t train your dog for basic skills – so a different approach that addresses the issue of why I can’t get near your dog must be used first to change your dog’s behavior so that I can then help you train your dog. Be aware that this occurrence is infrequent, but it can and may occur! Part of what I do when I meet your puppy or dog is assess his or her ability to be trained based on the dog’s behavior. The good news is: behavior can be changed!
If this is your first puppy, I will give you a personalized schedule to enable you to house train your pup quickly and effectively. During your first lesson I will also address any questions you have about housetraining and crate training so that you can start off your relationship with your new pup on a positive note. I recommend training puppies as soon as possible, within a few days of their entering your home. Most pups enter their new homes at eight to 12 weeks of age. If you start young and you let your pup know that there are rules which are consistently followed in your home from the beginning, you can prevent many bad habits and serious issues from developing later on. Dogs are similar to children in that they thrive on constant supervision early on, consistency, structure, and routine. With pups under six months, you will also receive the 30-page Puppy Primer that I have authored as part of your package for no extra fee. The Puppy Primer is also available for sale and for gifts.

Day Training
The “Easy” Button for Busy Dog Owners Has Arrived – Day Training for $69/day!
For owners who don’t have the time to be coached to train their own dogs and who may not want to Board and Train in a strange location for your dog, Day Training has arrived! I will come to your home several times a week for one to two weeks to train your dog while you’re at work! On the week-end, you spend one to one and a half hours with me so I can demonstrate and have you practice what your dog is learning. Material is left for you daily so that you can read what your dog has been learning.
When we meet on the week-end, further hand-outs of the training highlights will be given to you. Fewer days than five per week can be arranged as well. “Five Day Training” discounts are offered as a package session discounted from my hourly fees, depending on your location and the skills you would like your dog to learn. A neighbor or family member can let me in to your home, or you can leave me your entry key. Before training starts, you, your dog and I need to meet so that your dog “knows” me and won’t regard me as an intruder. Dogs must be gated securely when I arrive so that I can gauge your dog’s reaction to my arrival. Day Training is a great way to “board and train” your dog in your own home! Note: “Easy” Button Day Training is not appropriate for pups and dogs to teach housebreaking skills. I can explain why not when you call.
I spend one to one-and-a-half hours with your dog, which includes elimination before and after training. At the end of the week, I spend an hour with you reviewing and bringing you up-to-speed and current on the skills your dog is learning.

Proper Socialization
In domesticated dogs, the process of socialization begins even before the puppy’s eyes open. Socialization refers to both its ability to interact acceptably with humans and its understanding of how to communicate successfully with other dogs. If the mother is fearful of humans or of her environment, she can pass along this fear to her puppies. For most dogs, however, a mother who interacts well with humans is the best teacher that the puppies can have. In addition, puppies learn how to interact with other dogs by their interaction with their mother and with other adult dogs in the house.
A mother’s attitude and tolerance of her puppies will change as they grow older and become more active. For this reason most experts today recommend leaving puppies with their mother until at least 8 to 10 weeks of age. This gives them a chance to experience a variety of interactions with their mother, and to observe her behavior in a range of situations.
It is critical that human interaction takes place frequently and calmly from the time the puppies are born, from simple, gentle handling to the mere presence of humans in the vicinity of the puppies, performing everyday tasks and activities. As the puppies grow older, socialization occurs more readily the more frequently they are exposed to other dogs, other people, and other situations. Dogs who are well socialized from birth, with both dogs and other species (especially people), are much less likely to be aggressive or to suffer from fear-biting.
Obedience Training
Obedience training ranges from very basic training, such as teaching the dog to reliably respond to basic commands. Training for Condo Reviewssuch as “sit”, “down”, “come”, and “stay”, to high level competition. Basic or beginner’s obedience is typically a short course ranging from six to ten weeks, where it is demonstrated to the handler how to communicate with and train the dog in a few simple commands. With most methods the dog is trained one command at a time.
